I watched Scandinavia with Simon Reeve. A fascinating documentary. He notes in it that we are obsessed with the USA, but know hardly anything about these neighbouring countries of ours. He’s right! I didn’t know anything of what I learned from watching this. Highly recommended.
I finally finished Mobland his week, too. Really good, if a tad bloodthirsty. Guy Ritchie though, so to be expected. Tom Hardy 👌 Pierce Brosnan’s Irish accent was questionable. What got me the most was how close they implied the Cotswolds was to London 🤣
Thanks Sam for great items to explore further. Great to see Bernadine win the prize. I love her work. The topic of anorexia in middle age is interesting. I have just uploaded my May book review and it includes a review of Sarah Moss's recent memoir about her struggles with anorexia in adulthood. She developed it as a young child. A powerful life story.
Thanks for the round-up, Sam. Recognise some of this week's recommendations and look forward to exploring the rest.
Puzzled as to why your Friday round-up doesn't appear in my inbox (I'm a paid subscriber). I always find it on the app eventually anyway, but not sure why it doesn't automatically appear. Just me, or a glitch? I have settings to receive newsletters by both email and app.

Thank you for sharing my Wisdom Signalling thing! U so kind. Glad you liked it. Great picks, love your list.
You’re welcome. Loved your piece.
So happy to see Bernadine win! Really wonderful news 😍 I love her work. I will definitely check out Dept Q.

I’m loving how Department Q looks, as well as everything else - stylized enough to be interesting, but not so much as to be distracting.

Loved that memoir. I have Sarah coming up on the podcast and we talked about it then too.
I think she is very courageous talking about it publicly. It has certainly opened my eyes to how it can develop at such a young age.
thanks so much for sharing, Sam! Old Man Summer is heating up 👴🏻💖
So much cool stuff!
I LOVED Bernadine's novel Girl Woman Other!!! I love her work so much!!
Isn’t it brilliant?

Check your email set up. You may have it set to only get the main email
Aha, yep, that's it. I hadn't got all your options toggled on. Changed it, thanks, Sam.
Matthew Goode is so great in Dept Q, I didn’t even connect him to Matthew the vampire at all!
we started watching Dept Q last night. I had no idea it was Scandi, but now you say it it makes sense. Loving it so far.
