I love The Shift. It is both powerful and real at the same time. I frequently recommend it to friends as being 'like one of our conversations'.
I wouldn't move it, to be honest; I feel Substack is a different space and, while I will occasionally listen to podcasts and view video here, it's more a place to dig down and read. I think podcasts belong on Spotify and the Apple Podcasts app, where they can be listened to when someone is wanting to listen.
(That said, I recognise that those platforms are not easy to monetise and when you are providing such excellent content you might well want a way to earn from that, which would be a reason to move it here.)
Hey Sam- Just learned about your work and loving it so far. I’d have to agree with Tasha on the podcast observation. I don’t think people listen to podcasts much ON Substack. All the podcasts that are on Substack seem to have thrived elsewhere first, then also added the podcast to Substack just for kicks. I have a small listenership and frankly they’ve all listened to it on other platforms first. They just open the podcast post to look at whether they want to listen to it on their other apps later. Other people might have better experience with podcasting than me here, but from reviewing our stats--Posts have generated many new subscribers, and Podcasts have generated near zero. Our numbers are clear: Substack Podcasts are OK for serving existing readers, but on here, it’s virtually bringing zero growth. That said, some readers have converted into paying subscribers because of the added Substack Podcast we’re posting. But the initial interest and nurture is primarily all from the written word here. Other publications might think differently, but if you review Notes deeply, you’ll notice no one really restack Podcasts--which might also mean that very few are listening to Podcasts here. In my humble opinion, people are here to read. Your call, of course--But I wish someone had told me all this before I moved my podcast to Substack a few months ago. I’m now considering moving it back to Spotify. Best of luck, Sam. And I’m looking forward to more of your work.
Thank you so much. This bears out what other people have said to me. My podcast is thriving elsewhere so I think it’s going to stay there and I’ll just post reminders here.
I love The Shift so so so much!! The guests that you interview are an inspiration to me, and I lean in with my whole heart as they speak to things I can relate to. There is far too much static when it comes to feelings around midlife for women, but I feel like your podcast cuts through the noise and delivers important messages full of honesty and boldness. I've recommended The Shift to my sister and she loves it, too. Thank you Sam for your work, it's remarkable!! Love from Seattle xx
It’s so interesting, I did this post bc I have so many new Substack subscribers I thought it might be a good plan to introduce newbies to the pod. But it’s giving me so much joy to hear from long time listeners like you. Thank you x
I look forward to the Shift every week! It is refreshing to hear other women tell their stories and I'm from the US so many of the guests you have on I'm not as familiar with which in my view is wonderful, a great way to be exposed to other truly exceptional women.
Love this… any space for women to hear women share and speculate and encourage and inspire other women the better. As the midlife coach I know how much that means… we are the busiest cohort of society - and the least supported. Great podcast!
Lovely to have this introduction, Sam. I am quite new to Substack but have been sucked right in and can imagine it would be very nice to have such a thriving podcast here. I've also noticed a very rich midlife existence among women, which I've found reassuring. So nice to read those stories the mainstream don't seem interested in! I will listen to your podcast today when I finally treat myself to a visit to the gym!

Thanks tasha, I’m torn. I want to keep it over there tbh and keep
It free but I’m looking at the best options for keeping The Shift sustainable x

So glad to hear this. Thank you. If there’s anyone you’d love me to have on, I’m always up for recommendations

Thank you. There are so many new subscribers it seemed like the right time to intro them to the pod.
It’s great. And well done for flying this flag for so long. Absolutely loved The Pool …and now The Shift… keep going! 💪💪💪
Thank you. Really. That means a lot.
I can’t tell you how much I love your podcast. I listen to each and every one in my car 😉 needless to say I now driving!!!!
😍
Being deaf I dont really access or gravitate to podcasts. But if you posted the transcript here to Substack I would read all of it!
Hi Sofya, that’s a good shout. I’ve posted a couple, but I will get cracking on some more. You will find one here and the other three (so far) at the bottom https://theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com/p/what-i-learnt-from-talking-to-a-102

I’ve noticed that too. It’s so heartening and a lovely thing to be part of. Let me know what you think.
That is so awesome. Listening right now. 🩷
How great!
