People pleasing, check. Hyper vigilant, check. Smile when you get unwanted attention. Check. My therapist and I spent our last session talking about fawning and this excerpt had me seeing different moments of my life in new ways. Will definitely grab this book!

My fawning is being smart. It really tainted the joy of learning and discovery for a while as I unpicked which was survival and which was also my engine of being.

It’s nearly half past two and I’m sitting in bed, feeling so many things deep in my core. Pleasing others meant safety in a childhood filled with trauma. And it has been the path I have traveled until recently.

My therapist has been a godsend and it’s one hell of a midlife reckoning to look back at the years of fawning and how it has affected my life.

Now I’m off to order the book and maybe journal before sleep. xx

Completely resonates. Creativity is my fawning, and I received lots of praise for being quiet and drawing when I was a kid. Look at me now - a designer!

I, too, read this, holding my breath. Thanks for the book recommendation for cPTSD. I have cPTSD and have been having therapy, so it will be an interesting read.

I've done some inner child stuff. I'm also a Havening Practitioner, and we use a bit of emdr in that. Can be quite powerful.
