First up, because so many of you are new to The Shift, I thought I’d take the pay wall off a popular post I wrote six months ago. Let me know if it resonates.
Great recs! My husband looked over my shoulder when I opened your newsletter and said, “that’s a very handsome picture” (of Olivia Colman). Interesting choice of word as he hadn’t even read the caption below!
Sam. I'm obsessed with your newsletter! I'm so glad I found it. Your description of Passenger "folk horror Broadchurch" sold the show for me. I'll start watching ASAP
So so marvellous and strange (in a very good way) to stumble across Helen Garner again after so many years. I was obsessed with Monkey Grip as an 18 year old (and even wrote about it for an A level essay). I have thought about it frequently over the years but had forgotten the title and long since lost my battered copy! I’m off to listen to the podcast and discover the other books! Wow thank you Sam, this has really made my week (month?!).

So much in this I want to discuss, from More to 3 Body Problem! Also loved Romantic Comedy and will check out the Aussie writer thank you.
I’ve always wondered about Andrew Huberman in ways I can’t put my finger on. Drank my coffee reading the NY piece on him. 😮
Your list is scrumptious. Thanks for the Easter basket!
Loved this!
Something supercool I came across this week re perimenopause — https://www.fanclubzine.net/?utm_source=lauraolin&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=182-do-you-trust-me-do-i-trust-you
(with instructions on folding!) 🫶🏼✨
Thanks for the shout out! :)

I am so curious about the post you like to share, but it is still under the pay wall. Great reccomendations! 🙏
A bumper haul indeed, Sam. I loved Romantic Comedy when I read it last year, and excited for Andrew O'Hagan's new one too.
