Do you need to reinvent – or should you just cut yourself some slack?
Reinvention is the buzz word of 2024 resolution season. But is it just another way of making us feel inadequate?
Yesterday, after a couple of weeks very offline, I decided to clear my inbox. Of the 523 emails that had racked up since 23rd December, 87 of them mentioned New Year’s resolutions - not just mentioned them, but led on them. With the honourable exception of Sarah Knight’s predictably no-nonsense “What if there’s nothing wrong with you?”, fully 86 of them went straight in the virtual bin. Improve this, change that, reinvent the other.
And by all means, do, if that’s what floats your boat. But before you do, let me ask you (and by you, I include me) what is it you think needs reinventing – and, crucially, why?
